SUMMARY:Land Back Speaker Series: Karhiio John Kane and an Exclusive Screening of The Long Hope
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to the Land Back Speaker Series: Karhiio John Kane and an exclusive screening of The Long Hope. \nJoin us for dinner\, documentary and discussion for this exclusive screening\, hosted by Karhiio John Kane. He is one of the Executive Producers of “The Long Hope” and will be joining us for discussions on this powerful and enlightening documentary. \nJohn is Kanien’keha:ka from Kahnawake\, currently living in the Cattaraugus Territory of the Seneca Nation. He hosts the popular radio show “Resistance Radio” in New York City and podcast “Let’s Talk Native” \nJohn has been involved in contemporary issues facing Native Peoples\, he has battled local\, state\, and federal governments and raised awareness on issues ranging from Native mascots\, MMIW\, land use\, land claims\, and environmentally destructive infrastructures like the Dakota pipeline and Line 3. \nThis film exposes the hidden truths about government policy\, law\, and behavior regarding Indigenous peoples. Their hope is educating both Indigenous people and the public on issues never taught in school. While the government no longer exterminates Indigenous peoples\, it continues exercising and delegating absolute power over Indigenous peoples and Territories. \nThe Long Hope explores the slave-era origins of government policy as it relates to Indigenous peoples and the fight of the Seneca and Mohawk Nations to retain their sovereignty in the face of continued aggression by federal and state governments. \nRegistration required. Please contact Audra at ataillefer@durhamchc.ca to learn more or register.
