Ajax Youth Welcome the Winter Break at the Durham–Ajax Youth Wellness Hub

The Durham–Ajax Youth Wellness Hub kicked off its youth engagement journey in style on Friday, December 19 at the Ajax Community Centre. Over 80 youth came out to celebrate the start of winter break, and the excitement was contagious.

From the moment attendees arrived, the energy was high. A live DJ set the soundtrack for the night, while PS5 gaming stations and interactive activities kept everyone entertained. Youth could test their trivia skills in Kahoot, strike a pose in the 360° photo booth, or relax in the Lo-Fi Chill Zone, complete with bean bags, coloring, LEGO, and snacks.

But this night wasn’t just about fun. Attendees also had the chance to learn about the upcoming Youth Wellness Hub in Ajax and share their ideas for what they want in a space designed for them. From casual conversations in the lounge to group discussions at activity stations, youth feedback was enthusiastic and insightful, many expressing interest in future events and programs.

The Winter Break Kickoff marked an exciting first step in creating a space that truly reflects the interests and voices of Ajax youth. The Hub team is energized by the positive turnout and is looking forward to building a welcoming, engaging space where young people can connect, relax, and thrive.
