2nd Annual Black Health and Wellness Day: Embracing the theme of Agency
In 2025, Black Health and Wellness Day marked a historic milestone as the first event of its kind in Durham Region.
Hosted by the Black Health and Wellness team at DCHC in collaboration with The Provider Group, the day focused on addressing health and wellness inequities impacting Black communities while celebrating the tireless efforts of local organizations and leaders driving change.
Together, we’ll continue to empower communities to take ownership of their health and well-being.
Theme: Agency – What to Expect
- Empowerment & Advocacy: Workshops on self-advocacy, navigating health systems, and building confidence.
- Expert Panels: Leaders and health professionals sharing strategies for agency and equitable care.
- Wellness Activities: Wellness demonstrations, mindful fireside chats, and culturally relevant nutrition tips.
- Community Resources: Access to organizations offering health and advocacy support.
- Celebrating Change-Makers: Honoring individuals and organizations driving equity and empowerment.
- Sokoni Marketplace: Doors Open at 9:00 a.m.
- Accessibility and Inclusion: Bi-lingual volunteers will be available onsite to support the reduction of language barriers.
This special day is about honouring our heritage, breaking down barriers to health care, and creating space for joy, healing, and collective strength.
